Sports journalist Marc Chouamo reacts to the appointment of the new coach of the Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon finally has its new coach. Just over a month after Rigobert Song’s departure, Belgian Marc Brys was appointed on Tuesday evening to lead the Indomitable Lions, via an official statement from the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education. Aged 61, Brys comes with two assistants. Having been on various Belgian benches, the new occupant of the bench will experience his first stint on the African continent.
According to sports journalist Marc, Brys was not the first choice of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.
“Marc Brys is a default choice by the Ministry of Sports in its quest to replace Rigobert Song at the helm of the Indomitable Lions. The number one choice was actually Toni Conceiçao (…) I have proof in the return of several members of his staff from Conceiçao’s time as coach (Omam-Biyick, Alioum Boukar, Manouvrier…).
The Cameroonian Football Federation was not involved in this recruitment (it was predictable). The contract of the new coach must have not only the signature of the Minsep but also that of the President of FECAFOOT, otherwise FIFA would not validate it. So, will FECAFOOT sulk? Or align with the Government’s choice? Whichever option is chosen, this saga will have twists and turns. We’re not out of the woods yet,” explains the sports journalist.
