Named coach of the Indomitable Lions, Marc Brys has yet to sign a formal employment contract, sparking controversy.
Appointed by the Minister of Sports, the new coach, Marc Brys, succeeds Rigobert Song, whose contract ended in late February and was not renewed by the president of the Indomitable Lions, Samuel Eto’o. The Belgian technician signed his contract on Monday, April 8, 2024, in Yaoundé, the capital city, for a two-and-a-half-year term, renewable.
The 62-year-old coach’s contract was signed at the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, in the presence of Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the head of the ministry. The signing took place in the absence of Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot).
However, according to Jeune Afrique, which rarely errs on matters concerning Cameroonian football, Marc Brys is working without a contract. So what exactly did the Belgian coach sign at the Minister of Sports? Currently on a tour in Europe to scout players for the upcoming Indomitable Lions gathering in June, Brys’s position has been weakened.
Still not recognized by Samuel Eto’o, the president of Fecafoot, on the pretext that the ministry did not consult the federation before Brys’s recruitment, the Belgian coach is awaiting his officially signed contract by the former striker. Until today, the head of Cameroonian football doesn’t seem inclined to validate Marc Brys’s appointment as the head coach of the Indomitable Lions. Therefore, further developments are expected in the saga of the new Cameroon coach, which could further sour the atmosphere within the Lions’ Den.
