Disappointed by FECAFOOT and Marc Brys for rejecting the opportunity to join the den of the Indomitable Lions, Hugo Ekitike has the French national team in the back of his mind.

Having passed through the U20 and Espoirs (youth) categories of the French national team, Hugo Ekitike now dreams of representing the senior squad. Despite a rough start, the former Stade de Reims player has been steadily improving with each game. The 21-year-old striker seems poised for a promising season ahead. On Wednesday, he spoke about his international future.

Indeed, for several months now, Hugo Ekitike’s name has been linked with the Cameroonian national team. The striker, currently playing for Eintracht Frankfurt, would be a significant addition to the Indomitable Lions. At the end of April, following his European tour and discussions with several players, Cameroon’s national team coach, Marc Brys, announced Hugo Ekitike’s decision not to join the Indomitable Lions but to pursue his dream of playing for France. “We must respect his choice,” resigned the Flemish coach.

However, this information was promptly denied by the player’s agent. Speaking to the German media outlet Bild, the Frankfurt forward reiterated his fervent desire to play for the French national football team. “I will definitely watch the European Championships on TV during my vacation this summer, that’s for sure. But if I continue to demonstrate my qualities here in Frankfurt, my dream of playing for France could become a reality. I’m not setting any limits for myself. Of course, I can still improve,” he affirmed.

Is this a chapter we should definitively close?
