Since Saturday morning, all the talk has been about the unlikely outcome of the fight between Francis Ngannou and Anthony Joshua. After the knockout, the Cameroonian Predator made a new revelation, stating that he knew he was going to lose.
Francis Ngannou surprised the world when he announced himself as an English boxer. The undisputed UFC champion, who joined the PFL a few months ago, gave a glimpse of what he could do in English boxing when he fought Tyson Fury last October. Far from being ridiculous, Francis Ngannou created a sensation by going to the end of the fight against the Gypsy King.
Obviously, this opened more doors for him. After this performance, he was offered a fight with Anthony Joshua, the other British beast and former world heavyweight champion. But in the end, Francis Ngannou suffered the humiliation of his life, going down twice before falling completely in the 2nd round. It was a terrifying knockout, as the predator offered absolutely nothing against Anthony Joshua.
Ngannou’s unexpected revelation about his knockout defeat
It was his second defeat in as many English boxing bouts since joining the PFL, and Francis Ngannou knew exactly what was going to happen to him against Anthony Joshua. The Cameroonian admitted that he knew he was going to lose the fight against Anthony Joshua a few hours before stepping into the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Presented as an Outsider, Francis Ngannou was ultimately no match for Anthony Joshua, who manhandled him before quickly ending the fight with a devastating KO. In an interview with SecondsOut, Francis Ngannou finally admitted that he felt the worst was coming a few hours before the fight. The 37-year-old Cameroonian had a premonition that he would lose, something he can’t explain, but he still insisted on going through with the fight and fulfilling his contract.
“There are days when you wake up and it’s not your day. I can’t say why. It just wasn’t my day and I’m not taking any credit away from Joshua. He did a good job. He came here and won. My mind told me I would recover [after the first KO] but, again, it just wasn’t my day. The game plan was to let him do it for the first two rounds and then pick up after that. I was going to use a lot of footwork and work from distance, but even if I’d been different I think things might have gone the same way. It just wasn’t my day. I woke up this morning and felt that it wasn’t my day,” tried to explain Cameroonian pugilist Francis Ngannou.
Ngannou, his head still held high
Despite this humiliation, Francis Ngannou is not giving up on his dream of succeeding in English boxing. The man who is due to fight Renan Ferreira in MMA before the end of 2024 is not giving up.
“I appreciate the support. As always, I’ll be back. It was a fall, I lost the battle tonight, but the war goes on. At the end of the day, that’s a question for me, I think the biggest victory for me is to keep fighting, and defeat isn’t really losing the fight, defeat would be giving up or letting it get you down,” Francis Ngannou promised.
Despite the knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, Francis Nganou walked away with a 20 million dollar fee. It’s enough to lift his spirits at a time when he’s being criticised all over the web.
