André Onana is one of the players who will be at the heart of Manchester United’s revival, as the club seeks to launch a new era and bring back the glory days to Old Trafford.
This summer promises to bring significant changes to Manchester United’s squad, with up to 12 players expected to depart. However, amid the anticipated exodus and new recruits, several current players, including André Onana, are likely to stay and form the backbone of United’s team in the future, whether under the guidance of Erik ten Hag or a newly appointed manager.
While André Onana may have made another highly publicized error in Wednesday’s 4-2 victory over Sheffield United—a poor first touch and hasty pass leading to the first goal—the Cameroonian has shown significant improvement since his error-prone start at Old Trafford.
His distribution with his feet represents a massive upgrade over David De Gea, and even though he occasionally launches an odd mishap, with a stable defense in front of him—which has not been consistently provided this season due to United’s chronic injury crisis—he will develop a better understanding with his four defenders and thus play more consistently.
