The confirmation comes once again from the lawyer of the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) in an interview with our colleagues at The Guardian, an English-language newspaper published in Cameroon.
In an article from the English tabloid The Guardian, Me Antoine Vey, lawyer of Samuel Eto’o, regarding the CAF investigation into the president of FECAFOOT, declares that the audio involving his client and the President of Victoria United in a case of referee corruption aimed at promoting Victoria United to the Premier Division is authentic; it is indeed SAMUEL ETO’O and VALENTIN NKWAIN.
Let’s read and then listen once again to the audio to compare the lawyer’s statements with the reality of the situation, which led to Victoria United’s promotion to the top division, at the expense of other clubs such as Lausanne de Yaoundé or Stade de Bertoua, which were better ranked.
Samuel Eto’o accuses Veron Monsengo-Omba, current Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF):
“Mr. Eto’o does not recognize having participated in a conversation where he obviously talks about corruption. If you listen to the audio, he is trying to reassure the president of a club about certain problems he is facing; he says the problem will be resolved, but he does not say it was through illegal means or anything of the sort. We don’t really see the point of the audio. It doesn’t have much to do with the procedure and is just part of a campaign to damage Eto’o’s reputation,” the newspaper reads.
“We believe that this investigation is baseless and was only opened to create negative publicity towards Mr. Eto’o […] We do not accept how they are acting. If you look at the timeline, we don’t understand why the hearing is taking place now and why it didn’t happen in August. We can also see that people are using this kind of procedural absurdity to create fake news about him,” continues Me Antoine Vey, lawyer of Samuel Eto’o. Furthermore, Samuel Eto’o accuses Veron Monsengo-Omba, current Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), of being the cause of his troubles. He has also filed a complaint against him with FIFA. The president of Fecafoot was expected yesterday, Wednesday, at the Caf headquarters in Cairo, but currently, no information is available about his case.
