The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) accuses Veron Mosengo-Omba of violating FIFA’s code of ethics in the investigation into the match-fixing scandal.
Samuel Eto’o Fils, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), has filed a complaint against Veron Mosengo-Omba, the Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The former captain of the Indomitable Lions reproaches the Congolese official for violating FIFA’s code of ethics, particularly in the investigation into the match-fixing scandal, in which an inquiry is being conducted against Samuel Eto’o at CAF.
In the context of this affair, Samuel Eto’o is expected to appear on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, to explain himself at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The retired player is suspected of having facilitated the promotion of certain teams from the Cameroonian Elite Two Championship (Second Division) to the Elite One (First Division).
Samuel Eto’o had quickly responded, stating that he had not received “any notification of the accusations made against him,” while denouncing a “pernicious and toxic communication” from CAF. Suspicions particularly focus on Victoria United Football Club, the champion of the 2022-2023 season, whose president, Valentin Nkwain, is a close associate of Samuel Eto’o. In a statement released on August 9, 2023, CAF announced the opening of an investigation after being alerted by various stakeholders in Cameroonian football “about alleged inappropriate behavior by Samuel Eto’o,” whose identity was not revealed.
CAF also mentioned “serious allegations,” while reminding that the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker is presumed innocent. Since then, CAF has remained silent, making no communication about the ongoing investigation. Samuel Eto’o had quickly responded, stating that he had not received “any notification of the accusations made against him,” while denouncing a “pernicious and toxic communication” from CAF.
