Ibrahim Ousman Waziri passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. Many observers consider him an iconic figure in Cameroonian football from the 70s.
“This great man, who left this world as he lived, quietly, is known as the best goalkeeper coach in Cameroon. Affectionately called Coach Ibrahim, he trained and mentored several generations of goalkeepers, including Jacques Songo’o, William Andem, Marcel Ambang, and Clément Assimba, who proudly represented their clubs and the national team,” explains journalist Nana Paul Sabin.

Jules Tayou, a former player turned coach, shares his thoughts on Radio and Television Equinoxe: “Coach Ibrahim trained goalkeepers for free. Every weekend, he gathered young players on a field in New-Bell to coach them. He did this voluntarily, even using his own resources to provide equipment to some. He is one of those who gave everything to football without expecting anything in return.”
For many Cameroonians, the recognition he deserved never matched his commitment. “The world is ungrateful. This man is an icon; he deserved national recognition before leaving this world. He contributed immensely to the training of great goalkeepers who served the nation,” laments Jaco Kamdoum, an internet user.
Before dedicating himself to coaching, Ibrahim Ousman Waziri shone on the pitch himself. “He was a talented player with a magical left foot,” recalls Joseph Kamga, a former star of the Indomitable Lions. Jules Tayou adds that he started his career in the early 70s as a left winger for Stade de Douala, then led by Tohouo Théodore, alongside Paul Bahoken and David Mayebi, among others.

A childhood friend of Roger Milla, he ended his playing career at Dragon Haoussa in Douala. Alongside his free goalkeeper training sessions, Coach Ibrahim also taught physical education in several schools, including Esao.
Everyone who knew him describes a simple, humble man, deeply devoted.
The extended family of El Hadj Ousman Waziri informs the Muslim community, relatives, and all acquaintances that a prayer (dou‘a) will be held in his memory on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 3:30 PM, at his home located at Carrefour ancien Étage, in the New-Bell neighborhood of Douala, according to Nana Paul Sabin.
