Real Madrid have revealed their list of players called up to face Atletico in the Champions League, this Tuesday, March 4.
For this round of 16 first leg of the 2024-25 Champions League, Real Madrid will host their neighbor from the capital at the Santiago Bernabéu. Kick-off will be at 9:00 p.m. The match, which will be broadcast on Canal+ Sport in France, promises to be exciting.
After their defeat on the Betis pitch in La Liga, Real Madrid must get back on track with a positive dynamic. And what better than their favorite competition, the Champions League, to do so. Especially since this round of 16 is special since it will pit the Merengues against their eternal rival from the capital, Diego Simeone’s Atletico de Madrid.
As for the squad at his disposal, Carlo Ancelotti will once again have to deal with several significant absences. The two long-term injured, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, are obviously out of this clash. Defender Jesus Vallejo also joined the infirmary last week, but that should not hamper the Italian’s plans too much, as he is not counting on him anyway.
Added to these three absences is that of Dani Ceballos. A hard blow for Real since the Spaniard had found his place in midfield this season and provided an essential link between attack and defense. The player has suffered a serious knee injury since a clash against Sociedad and will be sidelined for the next two months.
Another pillar of the Madrid eleven who will miss this confrontation is Jude Bellingham. The Englishman is deprived of this match due to an accumulation of cards. He will however be there for the return match at the Metropolitano next week.
Finally, the good news came from Federico Valverde. After being sidelined during the last three matches due to a muscular problem, the Uruguayan is this time part of the call-up and should start on the left of the defense tomorrow evening.
The squad called up
Goalkeepers: Courtois, Lunin, Fran González
Defenders: Alaba, Vazquez, Fran García, Rüdiger, Mendy, Asencio
Midfielders: Camavinga, Valverde, Modric, Tchouaméni, Arda Güler
Forwards: Vinicius, Mbappé, Rodrygo, Endrick, Brahim Diaz
