The tension was palpable this Wednesday evening at the Metropolitano. After winning the first leg of the round of 16, Real Madrid lost 0-1 away to Atlético and had to go on penalties to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
But before getting there, the Merengues suffered greatly. Several players in Carlo Ancelotti’s team appeared angry throughout the match, notably Jude Bellingham.
The Englishman flew into a rage at Vinicius Jr. after the Brazilian lost the ball in extra time. The midfielder could be seen hitting the ground several times and yelling at his teammate.
However, securing a spot in the next round seems to have calmed things down within the White House. After the match, Bellingham spoke to the media. And while Vinicius, having a very bad night, missed a penalty in the second half, the 21-year-old publicly supported his teammate: “Vini missed his penalty? We don’t care. He’s helped us in so many matches.” Madrid will need to recover quickly from their emotions, as they travel to La Cerámica to face Villarreal this Saturday.
