Opposed to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund emerged victorious. However, the Germans are very upset with the French club, whom they have decided to take legal action against.
This season, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund faced each other four times. Indeed, the two teams clashed during the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. On September 19, the Parisians secured a 2-0 victory at home before earning a draw in the return leg on December 13 (1-1). Despite being undefeated against the Marsupials, Luis Enrique’s men still finished behind them in the standings. But a few months later, Dortmund and Paris met again in the Champions League semi-finals.
Favored on paper, the capital club stumbled at the Signal Iduna Park on May 1 (1-0) before collapsing at the Parc des Princes on May 7 (0-1). A devastating blow to Luis Enrique’s troops. On the other hand, Edin Terzic’s men were over the moon, as they had promised to win the coveted trophy for Marco Reus, who is leaving the club at the end of the season. They still have one final obstacle to overcome. And what an obstacle! Real Madrid, who have won the Champions League 14 times. But BVB believes in their chances on June 1st at Wembley.
BVB is angry with PSG
To achieve this, the Marsupials will rely on all their supporters. Fans whom the management defends fervently. On April 27, four days before the first leg of the Champions League, Dortmund took a stand to complain about the treatment given by PSG to its supporters. Bild explained that the Germans did not appreciate the fact that the Parisians reduced the number of seats allocated to visiting fans at the Parc des Princes. Indeed, the capacity was reduced from 5% to 4%, approximately 500 fewer tickets. Disrespectful according to the Borussians. A matter of security for the Parisians.
Despite negotiations between the clubs, the dispute was not necessarily resolved. BVB had therefore considered filing a complaint with UEFA. A little over a week after their qualification, the German club decided to take action. Bild explains that Borussia Dortmund had had enough and filed a complaint against PSG with the “Football Supporters Europe” association, which officially works with UEFA and has members from 48 UEFA member countries.
The Germans have taken action
The German media details the reasons for this choice. As mentioned earlier, Dortmund complains of receiving 480 fewer tickets than PSG in the return leg, whereas the French champions had received the usual quota reserved for opposing clubs. While Paris had cited security concerns and the authorities’ wishes, investigations conducted by BVB apparently proved otherwise. Furthermore, PSG banned German fans from displaying banners. This greatly disturbed and annoyed the Marsupials.
Finally, the PSG Capo’s instructions and Parisian chants were broadcast over the stadium’s speakers, including in the German section. For all these reasons, BVB decided to take legal action against Paris. “The FSE has already informed Borussia that it wants to impose sanctions,” Bild clarified. It remains to be seen what possible sanctions will be imposed, if any. Having faced off four times this season on the green pitch, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain are set to play a fifth, very different match.
