Raphael Guerreiro will miss the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid in Madrid on Wednesday, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Stuttgart on Saturday.
Bayern announced this, stating that Guerreiro’s absence will extend to “the next few matches” of Bayern, which includes two Bundesliga matches and, potentially, the Champions League final on June 1st at Wembley.
Guerreiro, a 30-year-old defensive player on the left side (either in defense or midfield), has injured “ligaments and the capsule” of his left foot. He sustained the injury while blocking a shot on Saturday and left the Neckar Stadion in Stuttgart with the help of crutches. His recovery now becomes a race against time for his participation in Euro 2024 (June 14 – July 14) with the Portuguese national team.
Bayern suffered a 3-1 defeat to Stuttgart, with their focus already on the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid in Spain on Wednesday (9:00 PM), following a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena. In the Bundesliga match preceding the first leg, Dutch international defender Matthijs de Ligt sustained an injury with Bayern against Frankfurt and had to miss the match in Munich three days later.
De Ligt’s absence forced Thomas Tuchel to field Kim Min-jae in central defense, who was at fault for both goals conceded by Bayern.
De Ligt, absent from the squad in Stuttgart, returned to training on Sunday, along with Jamal Musiala, who was rested for the league match on Saturday. Both participated in Sunday’s session along with the substitutes from Saturday.
