Champions League : Bad news for Real Madrid after qualification!

Carvajal received a yellow card for a foul on Grealish and will miss the first leg of the Champions League against Bayern Munich.

In that game, at the 37th minute mark, his challenge on Grealish was deemed to have halted a promising attack, leading to Carvajal’s suspension for the next match due to the resulting dangerous counterattack. He was one of four Real Madrid players cautioned in that match, the others being Camavinga, Bellingham, and Vinicius, who will be available for selection.

Carvajal, substituted by Éder Militao after sustaining an injury in the 110th minute, leaves Ancelotti with a tactical dilemma between Lucas Vázquez, the natural replacement, and Nacho, who could fill in if Militao is fit.

The question arises: Can the players reach the semi-finals without any sanction? Technically yes, but with a caveat. While all accumulated yellow cards are wiped before the semi-finals, thus avoiding a suspension for the final due to accumulation, this rule doesn’t apply if a player is already suspended for the second leg of the quarter-finals. Thus, only that suspension remains in effect. This measure is designed to prevent a player from missing the final simply due to an excess of yellow cards. However, any direct red card in the second leg of the semi-finals will result in a suspension for the final, with no possibility of amnesty for that offense.
