Barça Misses Champions League Semi-final Qualification

Barcelona’s hopes for a Champions League semi-final were dashed as they fell to Paris Saint-Germain. Mundo Deportivo reports that the club will miss out on approximately €20 million.

The Catalan giant, in dire need of new revenue streams and amidst negotiations, would have pocketed €12.5 million from UEFA for reaching the semi-finals.

Additionally, they would have earned a couple of million euros from the market pool (sponsors and TV rights) and another six million euros from the proceeds of an additional match at Montjuïc.

Furthermore, pending the allocation of the prize money for Spanish teams, this could bring in an extra €15 million.

Barcelona has already accumulated €81.15 million for their sporting performance. Consequently, the final haul will be close to the €100.251 million earned in 2019-20 for reaching the quarter-finals. The record stands at €117.73 million for the “semi-finals” of 2018-19.

Now, the Catalans must recover from their defeat and prepare for Sunday’s Clasico in La Liga, away at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In the first leg, Carlo Ancelotti’s men overcame their eternal rivals 2-1, courtesy of a brace from Jude Bellingham.

This Sunday, in the event of a defeat, Barcelona will simply bid farewell to the Liga title and welcome a trophy-less season.
