“I love his mindset”: Pépé praises a player from Senegal

In an interview with journalist Malick Traoré, Ivorian international Nicolas Pépé spoke candidly about various topics related to his career and current situation. The Villarreal CF winger particularly discussed his relationship with his Senegalese teammate Pape Gueye, with whom he shares the dressing room at La Cerámica.

Less than two months after his notable appearance on Just Riadh’s YouTube channel, which sparked numerous reactions and led to his exclusion from the CAN 2025 in Morocco, the 30-year-old player chose to speak out again. This time, he opened up to Malick Traoré, addressing both the tough moments and the more positive aspects of his daily life.

When asked about his bond with Pape Gueye, Nicolas Pépé couldn’t stop praising him. “Pape is a good guy,” said the former LOSC Lille and Arsenal FC player. “We get along really well on the pitch and it flows off it too. There’s no hypocrisy. We’re real. That’s the kind of person I appreciate.” His words reflect a sincere and natural relationship between the two men.

Pépé also emphasizes the importance of language and shared culture in their connection. “He speaks French too, so it’s easier for me to talk with him. I’ve spent time with him outside of football, and he’s the same person,” he adds, stressing the authenticity of the Senegalese midfielder.

Beyond their personal rapport, this bond also highlights the closeness between two African players competing at the highest European level. After all, among African champions, understanding often comes instinctively.
