Yaya Touré is climbing the coaching ladder with a major new step in his career. The iconic former midfielder, a prominent figure in African and global football, has been officially named head coach of ŠK Slovan Bratislava, one of the most successful clubs in Slovakia. This appointment marks a significant progression for the former player, who is set to lead a professional team for the first time as the main man on the bench.
At 43 years old, the former Manchester City and FC Barcelona player has reportedly reached an agreement with the Slovak club’s management for a three-season contract. This duration reflects the trust placed in his profile and vision of the game, as the club aims to solidify its national dominance while enhancing its presence on the European stage.

Since hanging up his boots, Yaya Touré has been steadily building his coaching path. He first cut his teeth at a youth academy in Tottenham, gaining valuable experience in the demands of training and technical guidance. Later, he joined the coaching staff of the Saudi Arabian national team as an assistant coach alongside Roberto Mancini. This collaboration gave him direct exposure to international high-level management, especially in competition handling and tactical preparation.
The challenge awaiting the former captain of the Elephants is significant. Slovan Bratislava regularly dominates the Slovak league and frequently participates in European competitions, with clear ambitions in the Champions League and Europa League. In this context, Yaya Touré’s arrival is part of a strategy for sporting continuity, but also tactical renewal, aiming to take a step forward on the continental stage.
Beyond the expected results, this appointment also represents an important test for the former Ivorian international, who must now translate his high-level playing experience into confirmed coaching skills. Managing a professional locker room, handling the pressure of results, and meeting the demands of European football are all challenges to tackle in this new role.
During his official presentation, Yaya Touré expressed his excitement and motivation to start this new chapter. He stated:
