Neymar’s return to the Brazilian national team has been postponed once again. Still recovering from several weeks of physical issues, the 34-year-old forward will not be able to participate in Brazil’s opening match of the 2026 World Cup against Morocco.
While his integration into the squad was considered until the final stages of preparation, the coaching staff has finally clarified the situation. As the match approaches, the team confirmed that the player is not yet fit to return to top-level competition. This absence deprives the Seleção of a key offensive option for their debut.

According to information from coach Carlo Ancelotti, the player is currently following an individualized rehabilitation program. He has not yet resumed team training, which delays his return to the squad. The medical staff is prioritizing a gradual return to avoid any setbacks, given his recent injury history.
However, the recovery process is looking positive from a medical standpoint. Early signs indicate favorable progress, suggesting a potential return in the coming days, pending the results of various physical tests and increased training intensity.
In his official communication, the coach emphasized the player’s situation and tempered expectations around an immediate return. He also stressed the importance of patience in managing such a profile, especially for a player whose impact goes beyond just the sport.
“Neymar is working tirelessly to regain his best condition. We hope he can rejoin the group next week. His contribution goes beyond his immense technical talent. His experience and leadership are also invaluable for the young players in this team,” said Carlo Ancelotti.
However, the Brazilian coach was clear regarding the match against the Morocco national football team: “He will not be available for the match against Morocco.”

This absence is a real setback for the Seleção, which must reorganize its offensive strategy for this first match of the tournament. Brazil will have to rely on the depth of its squad and other attacking players capable of making a difference in what promises to be a competitive match.
On the other side, Morocco is preparing for this clash with ambition, buoyed by its recent performances on the international stage. Deprived of its technical leader, Brazil enters the competition with an added uncertainty, while the timeline for Neymar’s return remains a key focus for the medical and coaching staff.
