Graeme Souness, former coach of the Reds, took aim at the Pharaoh and recalled an incident involving Sadio Mané, the Senegalese star who also played for Liverpool.
While Mohamed Salah has undoubtedly made history at Liverpool with his feats, goals, and assists, the Pharaoh is beginning to grate on the club. Some supporters have now called for the Egyptian forward’s departure, and his altercation with Jurgen Klopp last weekend only complicates matters.

Although Jurgen Klopp reiterated in a press conference this Friday that he had resolved everything with his player, some still hold a strong opinion about Mohamed Salah. This includes former Liverpool coach Graeme Souness. Speaking alongside Simon Jordan and Troy Deeney on the “Up Front” podcast, the 70-year-old British tactician launched a scathing attack on Mohamed Salah, labeling him as “the most selfish player he has ever seen.” These comments come in the wake of the public confrontation between Salah and Jurgen Klopp during Liverpool’s draw with West Ham last weekend.
“He’s always had disagreements with Sadio Mané.”
Graeme Souness referenced Sadio Mané’s departure from Liverpool to Bayern Munich and believes that the relationship between the two African forwards was not always easy. He thinks Salah is one of the reasons that prompted Sadio Mané to leave Anfield. “Even before this match, whenever Klopp took him off, he was never happy. That’s what you expect from your players. If you take them off after they’ve scored one or two goals, they should want to score more.
When Sadio Mané was there, they were always arguing,” he stated.
Regardless, Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool seems uncertain. The altercation with Klopp and Souness’s criticisms have cast doubt on his commitment to the club. The coming weeks will tell whether he will stay at Anfield or choose to embark on a new challenge elsewhere. Saudi Arabia has always extended its hand to him, and the Pharaoh has never hidden his desire to play in the Saudi Pro League.
A constant lack of satisfaction
Souness, the legend, believes that the incident with Jurgen Klopp is a clear sign that Salah is on the verge of leaving Liverpool, possibly for a wealthy team in the Saudi league. “He has been fabulous at Liverpool, but if he goes to the Saudi league, he will be the biggest star in that part of the world,” he said. “There is no doubt he has a very high opinion of himself and was furious not to be starting,” he declared. “I think the situation with Jurgen Klopp was a reaction to the fact that he was only brought on with ten minutes to go. It’s more Salah than Klopp who is responsible for that game. Salah is the most selfish player I have ever seen,” the 70-year-old tactician continued.
