A rival of Al Ahli has made an offer to Mohamed Salah that triples the salary of Riyad Mahrez in an attempt to lure him to Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi team, Al-Ittihad, reportedly put forward a staggering 150 million euros to secure Salah’s transfer from Liverpool during the summer of 2023, with an annual salary nearing 170 million euros (for context, Mahrez earns 50 million euros annually). However, both the player and his club turned down the Saudi offer.

As Klopp’s departure looms and Salah’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire in less than two years, the two-time African Player of the Year appears more open to Saudi offers for the upcoming season.

According to TalkSPORT, Al-Ittihad was initially at the forefront to sign Salah last summer, thanks to its Saudi league championship title and participation in prestigious tournaments like the FIFA Club World Cup, benefiting from a stable structure both technically and administratively in Jeddah.

Yet, this season has seen a significant shift, with Al-Ittihad currently in seventh place, allowing its rival, Al-Hilal, to present a compelling offer. Al-Hilal leads the league and has shown strong performance in this season’s competitions.

TalkSPORT suggests that Al-Hilal might make an offer as significant as Al-Ittihad’s, thereby gaining an edge over other Saudi teams interested in Salah.

Despite scoring 18 goals and providing 9 assists this season, Salah is presently sidelined due to a muscle injury he suffered a few weeks ago during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. He is expected to make his comeback in mid-February, in the Premier League’s 25th round match against Brentford.
