A bombshell has just been dropped regarding Mohamed Salah’s future. Since 2017, the Egyptian star has been at Liverpool, but according to Mido, a former glory of the national team, he’s set for a change.
At 31, Mohamed Salah seems to be approaching the end of his journey in the Premier League. A true standout in the English league thanks to his performances with Liverpool, the Egyptian striker has been the subject of much speculation about his future. During the summer transfer window of 2023, amidst rumors, he stayed with Jurgen Klopp’s team despite being targeted by Saudi Arabia with an enticing contract. Now, as we head towards another transfer window, speculation looms once more about Salah’s future endeavors. Mido has now revealed his destination.
This Tuesday, Ahmed Hossam Hussein Abdelhamid, better known as Mido, a former striker for the Egyptian national team (2001-2009, 51 matches, 19 goals), announced Mohamed Salah’s future destination. On his X account, the winner of the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations directly stated that Liverpool’s star is heading to Saudi Arabia.
“Mohammed Salah will be in the Saudi league next season, contracts have been signed!” This is a clear statement from the Egyptian legend, who appears confident in his information. If confirmed in the upcoming transfer window in about four months, Salah will join the likes of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, and even Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League. It’s a significant move for Saudi Arabia, which has been surprising many with its incredible transfers over the past year. At 31, it’s understandable that the winner of the 2019 Champions League would seek a change and a lucrative deal like many players of his age.
The Saudi raid continues. While Mido confirms that Salah will play in the Saudi Pro League, it’s still uncertain which club will secure his services. However, given the recruitment system implemented by the Saudi investment fund, the 31-year-old forward might likely join Al Hilal, a club with the likes of Neymar and Kalidou Koulibaly. Although Al Nassr, with Sadio Mané and Cristiano Ronaldo, is also a top club in the Saudi league, this possibility remains less likely.
Regardless, Liverpool is on the brink of losing key pillars of its project. Without Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure, and with Salah likely departing, the Merseyside club will need to act swiftly in the next transfer market to attract players capable of maintaining the team’s level. Currently leading the Premier League, Liverpool will aim to secure another major trophy this season after winning the Cup against Chelsea last Sunday. Mido’s statement only confirms what was announced a few days ago by Mark Lawrenson, a former Liverpool player. According to Lawrenson, there’s no doubt about the future of the Egyptian national team captain.
“Salah will definitely leave this summer, 100%. Regardless of what happens this season. I think there was an agreement last summer. He will go somewhere like Saudi Arabia, and I hope Liverpool will receive a hefty sum,” he said before adding, “Salah will become a king in Saudi Arabia! He could have left last summer. He could have walked into Jurgen Klopp’s office and said, ‘I want to leave,’ but he didn’t do that,” he added, as quoted by Goal.
