Present at a press conference this Friday, Jürgen Klopp addressed his clash with Mohamed Salah that ignited the English press. The German coach aims to calm tensions and focus on the end of the season.
The scene had circulated worldwide last week and naturally sparked headlines in the English press. During the match against West Ham, Jürgen Klopp had a heated altercation with Mohamed Salah on the sidelines. The Egyptian, who was about to come on as a substitute, exchanged words with the German coach, and their exchange was not exactly cordial.
While everyone was talking about it after the match, Mohamed Salah made strong statements afterward. “If I speak, there will be fire. Of course,” he said, even though Klopp had briefly announced in a press conference just moments before that the incident was closed. “We already talked in the dressing room. For me, it’s over. That’s my impression.” An impression not exactly shared, and the last few days have been tense for Liverpool. The English press didn’t hesitate to criticize Mohamed Salah and even demanded his departure this summer. It was imperative to restore order in the Reds’ house so as not to spoil Jürgen Klopp’s final weeks at the club. Indeed, this Friday, in a press conference, the German coach addressed his altercation with Mohamed Salah in detail for the first time.
Jürgen Klopp explains, “It’s completely resolved. It’s not a problem. If we didn’t know each other for so long, I don’t know how we would handle this.” He continued, “But we’ve known each other for so long and respect each other too much, so it’s really not a problem. I think we have the right to handle these kinds of things completely independently of any external expectations. That suits us just fine. It’s not a story.” He also took the opportunity to explain, in his opinion, the reasons for the tense exchange. “In general, the best situation would be for everyone to be in the best possible place. That we win matches, score lots of goals.”
He added, “Yes, the situation probably wouldn’t have been exactly the same because Mo wouldn’t have been on the bench in the first place. It all depends on each other,” Klopp explained later. It must be said that in recent weeks, Mohamed Salah seems far from his early-season form. While he still boasts impressive statistics with 17 goals and 9 assists in the league, he has only scored two goals in his last ten matches. And understandably, this doesn’t help to alleviate frustration. But Jürgen Klopp seems to have already moved on. The question now is whether the same applies to the Egyptian. We’ll find out on Sunday against Tottenham.
