Real Madrid will be without Ferland Mendy for three to four weeks. The player sustained the injury on the day of his 200th match for Real Madrid.
The left-back was injured during the second half of the match against Atletico on Wednesday. Mendy had always been Ancelotti’s first-choice left-back in recent Champions League matches.
The Italian coach relied on his defensive skills to stop attacks from Manchester City and Atletico. But during the second leg of the second leg at the Metropolitano, a poor back pass from Courtois resulted in his injury, which the Frenchman immediately noticed.
Ancelotti took him off and replaced him with Fran García, who played the remainder of regulation time and extra time. The club released a statement regarding the defender’s injury, announcing a biceps femoris injury in his left leg that will keep him out for at least three weeks.
With the international break approaching, Ferland will miss at least Villarreal this weekend, the home game against Leganés on the 29th, the Copa del Rey match against Sociedad on March 1st, and most likely Valencia the following Sunday. The Frenchman is also a doubt for the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal on April 8th at the Emirates Stadium.
