A PSG player denounced after the fiasco

On Tuesday evening, PSG hit a “yellow wall” against Borussia Dortmund. Touted as the favorite to make it to the final against the Bundesliga’s fifth-ranked team, PSG ultimately fell 2-0 across both matches.

The defeat at Parc des Princes in the second leg of the semifinal (0-1) was particularly marked by Lucas Beraldo’s error on Mats Hummels’ goal, which drew significant criticism from Olivier Echouafni.

PSG will not be heading to Wembley on June 1st. Instead, Borussia Dortmund will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. At Parc des Princes, Edin Terzic’s men secured a 1-0 win, mirroring the first-leg result, and seemed to be the only team aware of the stakes.

“The one marking Hummels on the corner is just 20 years old”

In an interview with Le Parisien, Olivier Echouafni, former coach of PSG’s women’s team, discussed the capital club’s elimination from the Champions League semifinal at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, specifically pointing out Lucas Beraldo: “The scorer, Mats Hummels, is almost 40 years old, and the one marking him on the corner, Lucas Beraldo, is just 20. In such games, experience is needed and Dortmund has it, whereas PSG sorely lacks it. That made a real difference, as we had already seen in the first leg. One of Dortmund’s strengths is their set-pieces, with many players standing around 1.90 meters tall. They took advantage of that.”

“The one who struggled the most was Lucas Beraldo”

“Hakimi and Beraldo as well. They couldn’t have been worse than in the first leg, although Nuno Mendes’ lack of competition could be understood. Tonight, they were a bit better, but still not at the level we expect from them. And for me, the one who struggled the most was Lucas Beraldo,” Echouafni insisted. “That doesn’t take away from the fact that he has incredible potential. He could become the Marquinhos of the future, but he had a tough time in this match.”
