Since leaving Real Madrid in May 2021, Zinedine Zidane has kept a low profile on the football scene, making only a few appearances in charity matches. As the Kings World Cup kicked off on Sunday, streamer “AmineMaTue” weighed in on the possibility of the Frenchman participating in the already buzzing competition.

Unattached since his departure from Real Madrid, Zidane has had plenty of free time, often spotted at events like Roland-Garros or in Formula 1 paddocks. He has also taken part in several charity matches while awaiting a return to the touchline.

However, Zidane will not be seen participating in the famous Kings World Cup, the seven-a-side football competition with entertaining rules organized by Gerard Piqué in Mexico, which began on Sunday. “There was no connection.”

Led by streamer “AmineMaTue,” France is represented in the competition under the name “Foot2Rue,” featuring players like Samir Nasri and Jérémy Ménez. However, any involvement of Zinedine Zidane, either directly or indirectly, is not considered, as explained by the French team’s coach. “I didn’t even suggest it. There was no connection,” AmineMaTue clarified in an interview with Ouest-France. “Zizou is a busy man. He’s a coach, a family man. I’m not going to bring him into a high-intensity project to play with National 1 or National 2 players and potentially damage his image or get him into trouble.”

Neymar, Ibra, and Totti are in the mix

Other prestigious names participating in the Kings World Cup include Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Francesco Totti, Sergio Agüero, Rio Ferdinand, and Iker Casillas, either as players or mere contributors. The French team Foot2Rue makes their debut in the competition on Monday (10 p.m.) against the Spanish side PIO FC.
