More than a week has passed since the Champions League round of 16 second leg between Atletico and Real Madrid, but certain events from the match continue to be discussed.

The biggest controversy of this encounter at the Metropolitano was undoubtedly Julian Alvarez’s disallowed penalty, as the referees noticed that the Argentinian had touched the ball twice while taking the shot. UEFA supported this decision by releasing a video and a statement the following day, but Atletico continues to believe it was wronged.

In addition to the penalty rejection, UEFA has opened proceedings against Atlético for what happened at the end of the match, when Real Madrid players approached the north end to celebrate qualification with their fans. At that point, objects were thrown onto the pitch, which was recorded in the report.

Atlético Madrid’s management, for its part, believes that other events involving some of Ancelotti’s players were not recorded in the report, namely the behavior of some Real Madrid players during the match and after the final whistle.

Atlético even decided to send videos to UEFA, demanding an investigation. No fewer than four videos were sent by the club, which considers the most serious to be the one showing defender Rüdiger turning towards the stands and making a gesture of cutting his neck.

Another video shows Vinicius Junior provoking fans at various points during the evening, Ceballos giving the finger, and Mbappé touching his private parts. Atlético hopes that UEFA will take these images seriously and that the European body will impose sanctions on the Real Madrid players for these actions.
