Kylian Mbappé, the French national team captain in 2024, is plummeting down the ranking of children’s favorite personalities published by “Le Journal de Mickey.”
Kylian Mbappé won’t be smiling this morning when he discovers the new issue of Le Journal de Mickey! Every year, the children’s media outlet reveals the ranking of their favorite personalities. This year, the French international from Real Madrid has surprisingly climbed to eleventh place. Fourth in 2024 and third in 2023, the player has seen a sharp decline this year.
To establish this ranking, Le Journal de Mickey based its publication on an Ipsos survey conducted last February among 400 children aged 7 to 14. A total of 85 personalities were suggested to young readers, but only those known to half of the children were selected. For the first time in several years, the captain of the French national team is outside the top 10 of children’s favorite personalities.
Kylian Mbappé, the fallout?
So what are the reasons that led children to exclude Kylian Mbappé from their top 10 favorite personalities? First of all, the year 2024 was marked by the Olympic Games. The French athletes who shone logically won the hearts of children. As proof, at the top of this ranking is swimmer Léon Marchand, winner of four gold medals at the Paris Olympics, followed by judoka Teddy Rinner, a two-time gold medalist. Comedian Artus, famous this year thanks to his film “Un p’tit truc en plus” (A Little Something Extra), rounds out the podium, ahead of Soprano and Antoine Griezmann.
Kylian Mbappé’s fall in popularity is all the more worrying given that he was named the 33rd most popular personality among the French in the ranking published by the JDD at the beginning of January, whereas he was ranked 8th in 2024. This lack of love can be explained by communication that is disapproved of by the French people and the image of a “big-headed” player by some.
