Currently, there are three top contenders for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. These include Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and the surprising Vinicius Jr.
However, Mbappé, mentioned earlier, doesn’t stand as strong a chance as the other two, who have both won the Champions League. To reassert himself as a significant threat to Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham, KM7 must win the Euro. Presently, he’s trailing behind the English midfielder and, notably, the Brazilian number 7.
Speaking of favorites and the potential Ballon d’Or 2024 winner, Dani Carvajal weighed in on the matter.
The experienced Spanish full-back has placed his bet on Vinicius. If not him, he believes it will be Bellingham. This leaves out Kylian Mbappé, the new signing for the Merengues. “Ballon d’Or? The one I see with the most options is Vinicius. He was injured for three months, but that didn’t stop him from scoring many goals and being decisive in the Champions League and La Liga. Maybe it’s him and Bellingham who can win,” said Dani Carvajal.
For that, we’ll have to wait for the Copa to finish and also see the winner of the Euro. As of now, nothing is certain for the Ballon d’Or.
The date for the 2024 Ballon d’Or is set: Monday, October 28. The football world will know the winner of this new edition. The ceremony will take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, just like last year.
This will be the 68th edition of the award, presented since 1956 by France Football. In addition to the traditional awards – the Ballon d’Or for men, the Ballon d’Or for women, the Kopa Trophy (best young player), the Yachine Trophy (best goalkeeper), and the Gerd Müller Trophy (top scorer) – two new awards will be added: the best men’s team coach trophy and the best women’s team trophy.
