Neymar’s return to Barça has been the subject of rumors for some time now. Now a new piece has been added to the puzzle.
Eight years after leaving Barça for PSG in a transfer that is still the highest in history, could Neymar make a comeback for Barcelona? This has been a recurring theme over the last few weeks, and in the last few hours, the TV show El Chiringuito has brought up the issue with new revelations.
Neymar needs to win at Santos first
Journalist José Alvarez assured us that a Neymar signing was indeed possible, but subject to conditions. “If Neymar takes care of himself, Barça will consider his return,” says Alvarez, adding that the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has good relations with the Catalan club’s management. However, Barça’s priority remains Luis Díaz. Should the Colombian’s transfer fail, Neymar could become an option, provided he puts in an excellent end-of-season performance for Santos. In addition, Joan Laporta would require the Brazilian to take care of his physical condition before considering a return.
These revelations stand in stark contrast to Deco’s last statement on the subject, which was measured, to say the least, on the sidelines of the Benfica match. “Ney is an important player. I think that if one day a situation like this arose, it would be good for him and good for us. Sometimes these stories don’t repeat themselves. They can be repeated, you never know… But I don’t think this is the time for Barcelona to be thinking about Neymar, or for Neymar to be thinking about this.”
