Kylian Mbappé’s signing with Real Madrid has dominated the media space since its announcement almost a week ago.
Everyone has known for months, but it’s finally official: Kylian Mbappé will play for Real Madrid next season. This news has been widely discussed on television, radio, social media, and is a recurring topic in interviews involving major football figures.
Generally, aside from those directly involved with Mbappé or Real Madrid, people tend to tread lightly on the subject. However, Bayern Munich has just weighed in with a rather decisive opinion through its sporting director, Max Eberl. In an interview with the German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Eberl expressed his views on Mbappé’s signing with Madrid, and he’s not a fan of how the transfer unfolded, specifically referring to the lack of transfer fees.
“One can always be more money-hungry, but those who are overly obsessed with money will gradually become the coffin nail of football. If, at some point, all the money disappears (from the market), there will be nothing left to do business with. We’re talking about hundreds of millions. It’s too much, and at some point, it feels like it’s going to explode,” he replied.
The Bayern sporting director might also be taking a slight jab at Real Madrid, which has pulled off similar deals in recent years (Alaba, Rudiger). According to him, it’s clear that the current football landscape is unsustainable, and he also hinted at the emergence of leagues like that in Saudi Arabia.
“At some point, the market will be saturated, and Saudi Arabia will come and take the players. That doesn’t give me a good feeling. I have to say this to be fair, but the market is like this right now. Money is flowing out of the market. No club is benefiting from it. Players, families, agents, everyone benefits, but not the clubs as it used to be,” he emphasized.
