Saka represents the England national team and has been one of the standout players for the Three Lions, who reached the final of the European Championship.
Although he was born in England, Saka’s parents are Nigerian, and he has always embraced his dual nationality and regularly celebrates Nigerian culture.
Bukayo Saka’s Remarks
In an interview with BBC Five’s Football Daily Show, Saka was asked about his Nigerian heritage, and he enthusiastically spoke on the subject. He was questioned about his connection to his Nigerian roots before being asked to translate his Yoruba name, to which Saka responded adequately.
“It means a lot to me (his Nigerian heritage). Obviously, I grew up with Nigerian parents, but I was raised in this country, so both sides mean a lot to me.”
When asked what his name means, the footballer replied: “It means ‘adds to happiness.’
I love my name. If I remember correctly, I think my grandmother gave it to me. I need to check with my parents, but I believe I’m right.”
While many Arsenal team members are training in Marbella ahead of the season, Bukayo Saka is currently on vacation, as he was busy in England until recently.
