Davide Ancelotti, son and assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, opened up in a candid interview about his professional relationship with his father.
Davide Ancelotti explains that he has a very unique relationship with his father, one that encompasses both professional and familial dynamics.
“When we’re at training, in front of the players, I address him as the coach. But when we’re in staff meetings or alone, I address him as Dad.”
This distinctive relationship allows him to be very demanding of his father, not hesitating to reprimand him.
“I’m very tough on my father, on his ideas and what he thinks. The rest of the coaching staff is also in the same boat.”
Davide Ancelotti’s journey
Davide Ancelotti grew up in the world of football, thanks to his father. “My father passed on his passion for football to me. It’s a privilege to be in a locker room from a young age. He started doing that when he stopped playing football to become a coach in the 1994-95 season. That’s where my passion for football was born.”
Davide Ancelotti began his career as a professional footballer, but he quickly preferred to transition to the coaching profession.
“I’ve always been more interested in the coaching profession than being a footballer. I thought, ‘Well, I’ll study and accumulate experience.’ And now, I have twelve years of experience that I wouldn’t have had if I had continued playing football. I’m happy with the path I’ve chosen.”
