Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois’s return to the Belgian national team isn’t going as he had hoped.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois did not participate in Sunday’s Nations League second leg against Ukraine due to physical issues.
In the first leg, with Courtois in goal, the Red Devils lost 3-1. The goalkeeper did not participate in the second leg due to muscle strain he suffered at the start of the warm-up. The decision was made not to play him.
Without him, Belgium managed to reverse the first leg’s score on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over the Ukrainians. This was a relief for new coach Rudi Garcia, who was deeply concerned about the image his team presented after the first leg.
Investigation in Madrid
Real Madrid is closely monitoring Courtois’s condition, as he was already ruled out of the match against Rayo Vallecano on March 9th due to discomfort. Minor muscle problems are piling up for the Belgian goalkeeper, who is worried about the crucial La Liga and Champions League matches.
Since the start of the season, Courtois’s only serious injury dates back to early October, when he tore his left adductor muscle during the La Liga derby at the Metropolitano. This injury has caused him to miss two Champions League and three La Liga matches, including the 4-0 defeat to Barça.
