The rules of the new Club World Cup could allow for an unexpected return to Madrid. That of Cristiano Ronaldo.
FIFA announced yesterday its new competition, revealing how prize money would be distributed among the participating teams. It was confirmed that the winner of the tournament, which will be held from June 14 to July 13, 2025, will receive nearly €120 million.
The transfer window was also clarified by the organizing body, and certain peculiarities of the rules quickly gave some clubs’ supporters ideas.
As Marca explains in its columns today, the new format of the Club World Cup opens the door to temporary signings. Indeed, the tournament rules state that teams will be able to strengthen their squads with a maximum of six players, without any long-term commitments.
One last dance for CR7
It didn’t take much for a rumor to gain momentum around the Bernabéu: Cristiano Ronaldo’s possible return to Real Madrid. As soon as this possibility was announced, the idea of seeing the club’s all-time leading scorer wear the white jersey once again excited fans.
Marca media outlet visited the Bernabéu stadium to survey the Real Madrid fans. And, as the newspaper reports, the excitement was palpable. Many dream of CR7’s return, even if only temporarily, and hope the club will seriously consider this possibility.
“It would be a huge plus, both from a sporting and marketing perspective,” said one fan. Others, however, believe the team is already well-stocked up front with Mbappé and Vinicius, making it difficult for Cristiano to find his place.
