Kevin De Bruyne is close to signing a new contract at Manchester City, as he hopes to play for Belgium at the 2026 World Cup.
De Bruyne is in the final year of his contract and has yet to sign a new deal with City, while rumors are swirling about clubs in the Saudi Pro League and MLS. However, the Mirror claims that the experienced midfielder is ready to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, as he hopes to contest the 2026 World Cup in North America for Belgium.
The report adds that the reigning Premier League champions are ready to offer De Bruyne a new 12-month lease, but the midfielder will see his wages cut considerably. The Belgian international currently earns £375,000 a week, but under the new deal he is set to pocket £150,000 a week. City manager Pep Guardiola is also keen to retain the 34-year-old’s services, as he wants at least one experienced player in the team while he rebuilds the squad ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
De Bruyne wants to stay
In an interview with reporters on Friday, Guardiola said: “There are players here who are over 30, but they are part of the future of this club. Kevin and the club will decide his future. Everyone who has a contract for next season, I expect him to be there. They will help us. Next season will be full of games. We can’t do it only with our new players. They will be able to help us and be part of our season.”
