The trial into possible medical negligence in Diego Maradona’s death continues in Argentina, with new disturbing revelations.
During the hearing held this Tuesday, RMC Sport explains that the police officers who arrived first on the scene testified to the total absence of medical equipment in the room where the football icon was supposed to be recovering from head surgery: “I didn’t see any medical equipment in the room, no serums, no defibrillator,” said Commissioner Lucas Borge during his hearing. The trial, which is trying seven medical professionals for “homicide with possible intent,” is expected to last until July, with potential sentences ranging from 8 to 25 years in prison.
The defendants deny any responsibility, while prosecutor Patricio Ferrari has denounced a convalescence transformed into a “theater of horror.” Around a hundred witnesses, including experts and Maradona’s relatives, will be heard. Among the striking testimonies, the police confirmed the sighting of Maradona “with a very swollen stomach, ready to explode,” while the prosecution spoke of “an unprecedented, totally deficient and reckless home hospitalization” ahead of the trial.
