Eden Hazard, former captain of the Belgium national team, has named who he believes to be the best player in the world. The player, who has represented Chelsea and Real Madrid, singled out Kevin De Bruyne as the world’s best player.
“I think they (the Belgium team) have a great chance, they have the best player in the world (Kevin De Bruyne). So sometimes to win something, you need a little bit of luck with injuries and this and that, so they have a great chance, they are good,” he said.
Hazard made this statement as Belgium made their entrance into Euro 2024 against Slovakia on June 17, 2024.
Ultimately, according to Eden Hazard, the “best player in the world” failed to lead his team to victory. Belgium indeed suffered an opening defeat to Slovakia with a narrow 1-0 scoreline.
During the match, Romelu Lukaku stood out with significant misses, failing to convert numerous opportunities.
With this loss, Belgium, a strong favorite in Group E at Euro 2024, currently sits in 3rd place with 0 points.
The Red Devils find themselves trailing behind Romania and Slovakia, who have had successful starts in the European competition.
