Last-minute bad news for Portugal ahead of Euro 2024. One of Roberto Martinez’s key players will not be participating in Euro 2024. Indeed, it’s Al Nassr’s midfielder, Otávio.

During the King’s Cup final against Al Hilal, he suffered a muscle tear.

As a result, he will miss Euro with Portugal. Quickly, another player, Matheus Nunes, has been called up to replace him.

“Otávio sidelined due to injury. Matheus Nunes was called up on Tuesday by Roberto Martinez to participate in Euro 2024. The Manchester City midfielder will take the vacant spot left by Otávio, who got injured while playing for Al-Nassr. Otávio was assessed on Monday by the FPF Health and Performance Unit, which concluded that the player would not recover in time to participate in the European Championship in Germany,” says the FPF.

A real blow for Portugal, but especially for Otávio. He had a good season alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League.

CR7 is there, all the Portuguese from PSG too

After Germany, the first nation to unveil its squad, the French Team, and many other participating nations, Portugal has just followed suit by making public its selected list for the upcoming European Championship, to be held in Germany. Unsurprisingly, it includes the captain and top scorer of the team, Cristiano Ronaldo, who now plays for Al Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes also finds his place there.

Furthermore, coach Roberto Martinez is convinced by the performances of all the Portuguese internationals who play for Paris Saint-Germain.

Indeed, Danilo Pereira (defender), Nuno Mendes (defender), Vitinha (midfielder), and Gonçalo Ramos (forward) are all called up for Euro 2024 in Germany.

At the same time, we see the former Real Madrid central defender, Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira, better known as Pepe (41 years old), in Portugal’s squad for the competition.
