In an interview with Sport Bild, Kylian Mbappé clearly outlined his goals for the upcoming Euro. The Real Madrid forward aims to make a strong impact.

A New Challenge for Kylian Mbappé

This summer, Kylian Mbappé faces a new challenge. Following his transfer to Real Madrid, the French star is now focusing on the French national team and the Euro in Germany. For several weeks now, the Bondy-born player has expressed his desire to win the only trophy missing from his international career. It’s an opportunity for him to redeem himself after the Euro 2021, where he missed his decisive penalty kick against Switzerland in the round of 16.

This year, the objective is clear: to win this European Championship and deliver a stellar performance. “The player I am in the World Cup has demonstrated all his qualities. The player at the Euro has everything to prove, and after 24 years, people are eager to win this competition,” he recently shared in a press conference. On Wednesday, Sport Bild published an exclusive interview with Kylian Mbappé. Speaking to the German media outlet, the former PSG striker revisited this competition that means so much to him and warned his opponents.

Kylian Mbappé Sets Out His Ambitions

“This is the first normal Euro for me. In 2021, the tournament took place in many countries, which gave it a different feel. That’s why I’m looking forward to it starting. Of course, I want to leave my mark on the field during the Euro. We come to Germany to make history. That’s our mission. We’re ready, we’re hungry for success, and we know what we have to do. We can achieve something great for our country if we bring the trophy home. We have to take it step by step. We need to have a good group stage first, then we’ll see,” he stated.

Approaching the competition with humility

Mbappé also emphasized that the French team will approach the tournament with measured ambition: “We have a very strong team, everyone knows it, we don’t need to repeat it every time. We come to Germany with big ambitions, but also with a lot of humility. We lost the last World Cup final. The Euro is a very tough competition, whether it’s tactically or in terms of game intensity. Almost every team knows each other inside out. That makes things very difficult. We experienced that in 2021 already.”

The Ultimate Goal: The Ballon d’Or

A triumph in this continental competition would also bring Kylian Mbappé closer to his ultimate goal: winning the Ballon d’Or. “That’s still my wish. Even as a child, I wanted to become the best player one day. I’ll continue to give my all and work hard to achieve this goal. Because it’s my job and it’s part of my life: constantly improving – without losing the enjoyment.”

The French team will kick off their Euro campaign with a match against Austria this Monday at 5 p.m. An opportunity for Mbappé to match his words with actions.
