In a few days, Euro 2024 will kick off in Germany with the participation of several stars in the competition.
Even though we’ll see the arrival of big names like Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and others, some unfortunately won’t be part of the event.
The platform Centre Goals has compiled a ranking of 20 European stars who will miss Euro 2024.
We’ll miss out on some truly great players who could have undoubtedly elevated the competition further had they been present.
Some won’t be there because their national teams failed to qualify for the UEFA European Championship.
For others, serious injuries are the reason for their absence from this tournament, which brings together the best European nations.
And there are those who won’t be part of the squad simply because their coaches didn’t deem them fit for the player groups.
The non-qualifiers
Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard play for the Norwegian national team. Unfortunately for them, their country couldn’t secure qualification. The same goes for Alexander Isak, the Swedish international.
The injured
David Alaba, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Lucas Hernandez, Gavi, Serge Gnagbry, and Christopher Nkunku are players who have suffered injuries this season and are either out or deemed too short on recovery time for such a competition.
The non-selected
Marcus Rashford, Jack Grealish, Mats Hummels, James Maddison, Jadon Sancho, Leon Goretzka, and Raphaël Guerreiro have simply been left out by their national team coaches.
Finally, players like Thibaut Courtois or Ben White have had disagreements with their national team coaches and have decided not to wear the national team jersey anymore.
Sandro Tonali, on the other hand, is suspended by FIFA following his involvement in sports betting.
