Indeed, he has chosen Steven Gerrard as his toughest opponent of all time in the Premier League and says he “learned a lot” from his battles with the legendary former Liverpool captain.

Fabregas, who will undoubtedly remain one of the best midfielders in the league’s history, is certainly well-placed to speak on midfielders.

He won the Premier League twice with Chelsea in 2015 and 2017 after failing to clinch it during his time at Arsenal.

Fabregas considers Gerrard his toughest opponent. During his two spells in English football, he faced countless high-level players who have since become legends, but the 2010 World Cup winner believes Gerrard stood out above the rest.

“I always thought he had everything in his locker,” Fabregas told SPORTbible when asked to name the toughest player he faced in the Premier League. “He could dictate the game, he could score goals, make assists, make runs behind. Offensively, he was very strong. You always felt that when you faced him, you had to be at the top of your game, otherwise you’d be in trouble because he was very consistent,” he added.

Fabregas never won the Champions League but is one of the 13 players to have won the European Championship twice after triumphing in 2008 and 2012.
