In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta had harsh words about Kylian Mbappé and his move to Real Madrid.

In recent years, Real Madrid seems to have gained an edge in its rivalry with FC Barcelona. While the Catalan club manages to stay competitive on the field (having won La Liga last season), off the field, Barcelona is struggling with economic and structural issues. The club is sinking into an economic crisis and is trying hard to remain competitive with limited resources. However, in an increasingly excessive football landscape, it’s difficult for Barcelona to compete and attract the biggest players in the world, unlike Real Madrid.

On the other hand, Real Madrid always manages to navigate through challenges, and this summer, they are set to make another big signing. Kylian Mbappé, who is set to leave PSG, will join the Madrid club. This XXL reinforcement is not just a sporting boost but also an economic one, confirming that Real Madrid is no longer in the same category as FC Barcelona, which struggles to retain players like Joao Cancelo or Joao Felix. Mbappé’s arrival will further widen the sporting gap between the two teams. At least, that’s not the view of Joan Laporta.

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the 61-year-old Barcelona president expressed a rather pessimistic view towards the French international and Real Madrid.

Is Kylian Mbappé a disruptive element?

The Spanish executive explained that he is not afraid of Kylian Mbappé at all and even took the opportunity to try to unsettle Real Madrid. “Am I envious of Real Madrid for Mbappé? Not at all, not at all. Besides, I don’t know if they will sign him or not. We’ll see,” he first said before being asked about the likelihood of the PSG forward joining this summer. “Do I have information? No, I have intuition. Right now, they have a problem. They need to sell a player (if Mbappé arrives), right? Because they won’t both play in the same position, and they are also very important, very expensive players.”

And Laporta continued, “And speaking of numbers, it’s certain that this will cause problems in the dressing room. It’s not a gift.” The president of FC Barcelona expects Mbappé’s arrival to cause disruptions to a Madrid team that will still be quite impressive on paper. Of course, managing stars like Vinicius Jr, Mbappé, or even Bellingham will be crucial, but if it works out, Barcelona will likely have some serious concerns. And Joan Laporta seems to be well aware of that…
