According to L’Equipe, French President Emmanuel Macron has once again insisted to Perez that he release the player for the Paris Olympics.
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, remains steadfast in his desire to see Kylian Mbappé lead the French team at the Paris Olympics, but he faces a major obstacle: Florentino Pérez. The Real Madrid, the forward’s likely future club, is within its rights to refuse its players’ participation in this competition, which does not fall within FIFA’s dates.
For months, the French President has publicly emphasized his wish to see the star participate in the Olympics and has directly targeted Real Madrid to abandon its idea of prohibiting its players from taking part in the competition. Yesterday, Emmanuel Macron and Florentino Perez found themselves at the same table at the Élysée Palace during an event commemorating the 120th anniversary of FIFA’s creation.
According to the media outlet L’Equipe, the French President took the opportunity to approach Perez and try to persuade him to release his star player, one of the main attractions of Paris 2024.
Florentino’s response, as per the aforementioned source, was negative. Real Madrid has already made it clear that it refuses the participation of its other internationals in the Olympics (as it does not fall within FIFA’s dates, clubs have the power to do so), and the club’s intention is for Mbappé to join Ancelotti’s team in August, after the European Championship.
