Real Madrid could sign Ibrahim Konaté, but Liverpool have set a clear condition. Will the Spanish club accept this demand?
Real Madrid is closely monitoring the situation of Ibrahim Konaté, who could leave Liverpool during the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the Reds do not intend to let him leave without compensation. They are reportedly demanding a significant sum to release the central defender, an amount the Madrid club is reluctant to pay. Florentino Pérez and his team are analyzing all the options available on the market, knowing that they could wait and sign other defenders in the future.
Liverpool Ready to Sell Konaté, But Conditionally
According to several sources in England and Germany, Liverpool are interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck. This potential arrival would open the door to Ibrahim Konaté’s departure. However, the English club does not intend to sell the player cheaply and is reportedly demanding €60 million for his transfer.
According to information reported by Defensa Central, Real Madrid could be tempted by the deal, but not at that price. Indeed, the Spanish club knows that Konaté will be a free agent in the summer of 2026, which means they could wait to land him without a transfer fee, as they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid is in no rush
Currently, Madrid’s management feels no urgency to strengthen their central defense. They already have solid players like Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, despite the fact that both players have suffered injuries and are getting older.
At the same time, the Madrid club is keeping an eye on William Saliba, whose contract with Arsenal expires in 2027. This approach would allow Real Madrid to recruit intelligently, without rushing into an excessively high financial investment.
An expected market opportunity
If a suitable opportunity arises, Real Madrid could accelerate a transfer as early as the summer of 2025. For now, no final decision has been made regarding the purchase of a central defender. The club is analyzing several options and monitoring market developments.
The Konaté case therefore remains open, but Liverpool’s demands could slow down the deal, unless the Merengues manage to negotiate a more favorable price.
