During an interview, the prominent African artist Burna Boy stated that he is richer than footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi combined. Despite the seemingly incredulous claim, the artist reaffirmed his statement, attributing his wealth to the significant earnings from his numerous concerts. Burna Boy expressed himself as follows:
“I am richer than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi combined. People may think I’m joking, but statistically, you will see that I am wealthier than them.
I make a lot of money from my concerts and shows, whereas Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are being signed by clubs and earn less than me.”
These remarks follow a recent statement from the artist’s mother, who shed light on Burna Boy’s journey and the income generated from a single concert. She revealed that the earnings from one show can sustain them for a year.
“I started managing Burna Boy 13 years ago. I read his first record contract in 2010 and urged him to sign it.
But back then, music couldn’t pay the bills, so I was still working behind the scenes while doing my job.
I had children who needed food, so you see, I couldn’t focus solely on music. I told Burna Boy that I believed in him and would support him.
In addition to being his manager, I had to constantly motivate him and tell him not to settle for less.
Look at us now. One single night’s show can sustain us for a year,” she revealed.
It’s worth noting that Burna Boy is now one of the wealthiest artists in Nigeria, having amassed a fortune through his music and the numerous concerts he has held across Africa and around the world.
Today, he considers himself wealthier than his peers, including Davido, Wizkid, etc., due to the substantial fees he commands for his music. He had previously made these statements on the X network:
“I’ve said that money doesn’t satisfy me, and that’s my truth. But it doesn’t change the fact that I am the highest-paid artist in the history of African music. Believe it or not.”
