Jadon Sancho will be there to emulate Neymar in the Champions League final this weekend at Wembley.
The Borussia Dortmund winger has returned to form this year after being exiled and departing Manchester United on loan. He “outshone” Kylian Mbappe in the semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain with his regained confidence and audacity on the big stage.
Sancho has stepped up in recent months to the extent that he could break a record at Wembley on Saturday night in the Champions League final. In six matches across the round of 16, quarter-finals, and semi-finals combined, the 24-year-old has completed a total of 25 dribbles. That’s the record for a player in a single edition of the Champions League knockout stages since Neymar for PSG in 2019/20. The Brazilian superstar managed 32 dribbles in the final four years ago.
Sancho is now just eight shy of setting a new record, with an outstanding performance in this year’s showpiece event potentially seeing him etch his name into history. In fact, he will already have made history just by stepping onto the field that night.
Sancho will encounter his fellow Englishman Jude Bellingham as Dortmund takes on Real Madrid, marking a special moment for the country. Both players are expected to start in the final, and in doing so, it will be the first time two English players have met in a Champions League final while playing for non-English teams. Sancho and Bellingham are two stars who have chosen to depart their home country, and they are now reaping the rewards. One of them will lay hands on the Champions League trophy at the end of the match, and the headline clash promises to be special. Real is aiming for its 15th title in UEFA’s premier European tournament, while Bellingham will aim to lead his team to glory.
