Several football stars, such as Jules Koundé, Marcus Thuram, and Kylian Mbappé, have displayed hostility towards the far-right during the legislative elections in France.
Their firm stances and calls to action greatly worked against the RN, the far-right party.
According to initial estimates from polling institutes, the Nouveau Front Populaire is leading the legislative elections in France, surpassing the far-right. Following this result, Jules Koundé expressed immense relief on X, this Sunday, July 7, 2024.
“Congratulations to all the French people who mobilized to ensure that this beautiful country, France, is not governed by the far-right,” he declared.
The stars of Les Bleus against the far-right
Marcus Thuram was among the first to urge the French to vote massively to prevent the Rassemblement National from gaining ground.
“We must fight to prevent the RN from succeeding!” he declared. Similarly, Kylian Mbappé reacted: “The extremes are at the gates of power, we have the opportunity to choose the future of our country.
“I urge all young people to vote, to realize the importance of the situation. I hope my voice will carry as much weight as possible.”
The distrust towards the far-right is largely explained by its anti-immigration policies.
According to Clémentine Autain, a deputy of the Nouveau Front Populaire, “the far-right has instilled fear of foreigners, stigmatizing populations of immigrant origin.”
She indicated that the far-right lies “to the French by explaining that by expelling immigrants, we would have solutions for those who are suffering, who do not have public services, who have end-of-month or even beginning-of-month problems.”
According to her, “the problem is not a migration crisis,” but “a crisis of hospitality.”
