After several years, Jürgen Klopp will bid farewell to the supporters on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Anfield. During his final pre-match press conference, the German coach reflected on his time on the Reds’ bench.

In the same vein, Jürgen Klopp spoke highly of Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, both of whom are departing.

Read below his statement on the subjects:

Farewell match against Wolverhampton: “It’s a huge challenge to be here and claim it’s a normal match, nobody will believe it. It’s challenging for different reasons. I have no idea what the team meeting will be like.

The documentary makers asked if they could film, and I said no! Someone needs to speak to the team, can I do that? Maybe yes, but I don’t know yet.

I hope we can all deliver a great performance. It’s much easier to party after the match if you’ve witnessed a good game. It would be great to have some atmosphere at the match. Wolves are the unluckiest team I’ve seen with VAR decisions. We’ve had a few, but they’re the champions in that regard. They also want to finish the season well.

Premier League vote on VAR removal: The way they use it is not correct, I would also vote for its removal. These people are not capable of using it correctly. VAR is not the problem, but since we can’t change people, I would vote for VAR’s removal.”

Joel Matip: “They (Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara) were in my office this week. Have you ever seen a better free signing than Joel Matip? He’s ridiculously funny and a wonderful man. He has to decide if he wants to keep playing. Whoever gets him will be a lucky club because he’s a world-class player and very humble.”

Thiago Alcantara: “He’s a world-class player. In a parallel world, I would like to see his career without injuries; he can do things I didn’t think were possible. He’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.

He controls everything on the field, but unfortunately, his body wasn’t with him. From a positive perspective, he looked fit yesterday. I’ve already thanked both (Alcantara and Matip) for everything they’ve done. They’ve all been brilliant. If they hadn’t been, they would have left last year.”
