The Spanish forward Ferran Torres has joked that his teammate Lamine Yamal should be banned for reaching such a level at his age.
Yamal, who is only 16 years old, has been a crucial part of La Roja’s Euro 2024 campaign.
The young footballer started two of the group stage matches and came on as a substitute in the third.
Ferran Torres’ comments
Speaking to Sid Lowe of The Guardian, Ferran Torres joked about Yamal being unfairly competent given his young age.
“He should be banned. What this kid does at 16,” Ferran told the journalist.
The interviewer immediately informed Ferran that his joke had a hint of reality, as due to his age, Lamine Yamal is not allowed to play beyond 11 PM, which could prevent him from participating in any potential extension. “No, I’ll report him to the police after July 14, 2024,” Torres joked.
“Let’s let him help us win first.
By the way, I didn’t know that; I’ll go tell him now, to annoy him: there’s a joke to be made here,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal has recently revealed that he has always intended to play for Spain, despite interest from Morocco, a North African country.
