The 40-year-old “King” LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) became the first player to surpass the 50,000-point mark in the NBA, regular season and play-offs combined, on Tuesday March 4, 2025.

Four-time NBA champion LeBron James achieved this feat in a home game against the New Orleans Pelicans, two years after becoming the NBA’s all-time scoring record holder ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The Lakers easily won 136-115, with 34 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for James.

In the midst of his 22nd season in the North American basketball league, “LBJ” continues to break records and push limits.

This basketball giant, Olympic champion for the 3rd time last summer in Paris, started Tuesday’s game with 49,999 points on the clock. After 3 minutes 26 of play, following a pass from Luka Doncic, he sent in a three-pointer that hit the nail on the head, to pass the symbolic 50,000 mark.

In detail, the NBA officially counts regular-season and play-off games, but not the play-offs or NBA Cup Finals, two recent additions to the calendar.

Apart from James, only Abdul-Jabbar (44,149) and Karl Malone (41,689) have ever topped the 40,000-point mark, ahead of Kobe Bryant (39,283) and Michael Jordan (38,279).

At the age of 40, James, a physical monster, is still very much at the top of his game, and was named Western Conference MVP in February, the 41st such award of his career and his first in five years.

He’s averaging 24.8 points this season, missing just four games so far. In February, his average rose to 29.3 points.

Above all, LeBron James can still dream of trophies, as the Lakers are second in the Western Conference and his partnership with the gifted Luka Doncic seems natural.

The 17-title franchise shook up the NBA in early February when it traded its All-Star inside man Anthony Davis for the Slovenian wizard from Dallas.
