After several weeks of suspense, the identity of Jürgen Klopp’s replacement as manager of Liverpool FC is finally known. It’s not a big name in the field.

Arriving at Liverpool in October 2015, Jürgen Klopp decided to leave the Reds’ bench after 9 seasons. Despite signing a new contract until 2026 a few months earlier, the German technician announced on January 26th that he would not continue with the Merseyside club.

“[…] I’m running out of energy. I don’t have any problems right now, I’m fine at the moment. But I know that I couldn’t continue to do the job over and over again. After all these years together, all the time spent, all the trials, with all the respect and love that have grown over the years, I owed you the truth, and that’s the truth,” he explained after his announcement, which he himself described as a bombshell.

Since then, the Reds’ executives have been searching for his replacement. Several names have been mentioned in the meantime, but in the last few hours, one has come back with insistence, and that is the Dutchman Arne Slot.

According to information reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between the Dutch technician and Liverpool is complete.

The Reds will pay compensation to Feyenoord due to Slot’s existing contract with the Dutch club. The two clubs have already agreed on the amount of this compensation, we learn from the same source. At 45 years old, Arne Slot’s name is not very well known to the sports public. Nevertheless, he has been a football coach since 2019 and made his debut on the sidelines at AZ Alkmaar.

He joined Feyenoord FC in 2021 and won the championship with the club in 2023. This season, he won the Dutch Cup and is currently in contention (although slightly behind) with PSV Eindhoven for the league title.

The Jürgen Klopp era will thus come to an end at the end of the current season. During his time at the helm of Liverpool, Klopp won 6 trophies, including a Champions League and an English league title 30 years after the club’s last triumph.

For his future, he announced that he would take at least a year off before taking the reins of a club again.
